Jonathan & Elizabeth

What was your favorite memory from your Sea Island Wedding?
Elizabeth: I will never forget the first time I saw Jonathan standing in the Avenue of the Oaks for our first look. It was the most intimate moment seeing each other for the first time as bride and groom. It brought tears to both of our eyes and it’s a moment we will cherish forever.

Jonathan: My favorite memory was walking out into the garden for the ceremony and seeing all of our loved ones there to celebrate with us. Seeing how beautiful everything was- from the trees, the flowers, to the chandeliers, to the music. It was a true fairytale. All of my closest friends standing by my side as the chapel doors open up; my soon to be wife walks out of the chapel doors taking my breath away.

How did you hear about Sea Island?
Jonathan has been coming since he was a young boy. It is truly his second home and now ours.

What was the inspiration for your décor/theme of your wedding?
Encompassing all of our favorite aspects of beach, southern tradition, and southern charm. The Cloister brings all of these elements easily together.

If you grew up coming here, what is your favorite past Sea Island memory?
Jonathan: The days on the beach with my little brother Ben. We would spend hours and hours from sun up to sun down playing on the beach and at the pool at the Beach Club.

Also, the elegant formal dinners in in the old Cloister Ballroom. I remember one time specifically. I had brought some of my friends with me down for the summer and we all went to dinner as a family. We had the large round table right in front next to the band and the dance floor. Being raised on southern manners and etiquette, when my mother rose from the table, all of us young men stood up and waited for her to excuse herself. The entire ballroom turned and looked at us. The next morning at breakfast the waiters were still talking about it and how nice it was to see southern manners still live on in the next generation.

After the wedding was over, were you pleased with the details? How would you describe your experience at Sea Island?
In a simple utterance. “A True Fairytale From Start to Finish”. Sea Island brought our visions to life of our perfect weekend from start to finish. From arriving the Thursday before and being greeted by Bruce with, “Welcome Home Mr. and soon to be Mrs. Overman”, to the Lodge for the rehearsal dinner, to the ceremony at the Cloister Garden, to the Reception at the Beach Club, no detail was left out.
