Passing Sea Island down from one generation of Hopkins to the next.
For Anna and Chase Hopkins, life along Georgia’s coast has always been part of their story and a source of countless cherished memories. Over the past decade, they, along with their three children—Charlie (7), Nancy (6) and Linton (2)—have made Sea Island central to their lives. Their connection to this special place, however, runs even deeper.
Throughout their childhood, they both grew up vacationing on nearby St. Simons Island and would occasionally visit The Cloister on special occasions. In 2005, Chase’s parents, Sara and Tommy Hopkins, officially became Sea Island Club members and that legacy inspired Anna and Chase’s decision to join shortly after settling permanently on the Island in 2014.
“We’ve always known we wanted to come back and make Sea Island our home,” Anna said. “It felt like the natural step to continue the tradition for our own family.”
Sea Island holds a distinct allure for families like the Hopkins, blending timeless charm with opportunities for multigenerational connections. For Anna and Chase, its significance is both personal and historic.
“My husband and I had one of our first dates at Oak Room, and we would go to the New Year’s Eve celebration every year while we were dating,” Anna shared. “Now, bringing our kids to the same places where our story began makes those moments even more meaningful,” and that’s what Anna feels Sea Island does best.
Over the years, the family has cultivated Sea Island traditions of their own, like watching the bagpiper at sunset. Whether it’s date night cocktails on the terrace or a family outing with the kids practicing their putting, The Lodge remains a favorite spot for the entire family.
“The array of activities, from children’s programs like Camp Cloister to golf and Sea Strike bowling, ensures there’s something for everyone,” Anna said. This unique ability has made the resort a gathering place for the extended Hopkins family, who hail from across the Southeast. “It’s a place where we know we can entertain and engage anyone who visits,” she mentions.
As the Hopkins family continues to make Sea Island their home, they remain committed to cherishing and passing down its traditions to all who visit. “Every time someone comes for a vacation, we hope they love this special island as much as we do,” Anna said—because for her, the essence of Sea Island is summed up in a single word: community.
Whether it’s building sandcastles on the beach, playing Bingo at The Cloister or celebrating milestones together, the Hopkins family’s story reflects the heart of what makes Sea Island an enduring treasure for its members and their families.
