What’s In Our Beach Bag

Enjoy coastal living in style with these handpicked favorites from our Sea Island retail expert.

By: Rachel Garbus

With five miles of private beach and countless pools to select from, waterside living is at the heart of Sea Island. And while the coastlines may be timeless, beachwear and beach accessory trends have changed with the tides. From organic fabrics to reef-safe sun protectants, this season is all about sustainable materials and classic silhouettes. Here are some of this summer’s top must-haves, hand-selected by Katie Sigg, Sea Island Chief Retail Buyer and Curator.

N 1 | TOM FORD SUNGLASSES
Sea Island retailers have a huge array of sunglass styles from the iconic designer, Sigg explains. “We stock classic styles and seasonal styles, so there’s always something new.” While you’ll find a bevy of brands, Sigg says Tom Ford’s eternally elegant designs have long been a crowd favorite. Whether you’re horseback riding through the dunes or watching the kids live it up on the waterslide, you’ll find a pair to keep you shaded and styling all day long. $495

N 2 | JANESSA LEONE STRAW SUN HAT
When it comes to hats, designer Janessa Leone can do no wrong. Her beachwear line will have you lingering by the water from sunup to sundown. Leone’s straw hat designs employ the signature chic silhouettes that make her a darling of celebrities, while the refined, natural fiber material keeps things light and summery all year round. “Her hats are super lightweight and flexible,” says Sigg. “They are another great way to protect your skin.” Her suggestion: try the Packable hat, designed for travel, taking you seamlessly from airport lounge to lounging by the pool. $298

N 3 | WOVEN LEATHER SLIDERS
The perfect footwear to pair with your sarong, these Melissa Odabash woven sandals are timeless, elegant, and will add sophistication to every outfit. Made from real leather, the upper features an intricate woven design, a comfortable footbed and a practical rubber sole. Off the beach, pair these with denim shorts or your favorite kaftan, this new style is about to become your go-to style. $136

N 4 | SUPERGOOP! GLOW STICK
This dry-oil sunscreen is optimized for maximum skin protection with minimal gloop-factor, and comes in a swivel stick for easy application. Plus, the dewy finish feels less like sunscreen and more like a spa product. “Supergoop has a lot of great products, but this glow stick is so easy to throw in your bag and make sure you have SPF on hand,” says Sigg. Free of oxybenzone, Supergoop’s sunwear products are gentle on your skin and the ocean. $32

N 5 | MELISSA ODABASH SARONG
“This sarong is great to throw on quickly if you have to chase the kids down the beach,” laughs Sigg. “It’s your perfect basic cover-up.” Designer Melissa Odabash takes beachwear to another level of sophistication, and while her sarongs are beachy casual, their luxurious feel and classic silhouettes are pure elegance. They come in a variety of colors that effortlessly compliment all skin shades under the sun and are the ideal accessory for transitioning from the shores to poolside with ease. $125

N 6 | WEEZIE HAT HOLDING TOTE
Weezie may not have been the first to add a hat-holder to a beach bag, but this towel company’s elegant design and oh-so-soft materials make this hat-holding tote a cut above the rest. “It’s a terry-cloth tote with plenty of space for everything you need for the beach,” says Sigg. Designed in navy blue French terry with a snappy rick rack trim, Weezie’s hat-holding tote is made with straps to fit any sunhat with minimal fuss. Inside, the jauntily patterned interior is coated for easy, stain-free cleaning. $135
