Meet Sam

In the world of North Carolina barbecue, the Jones family name is equivalent to royalty. Third generation pitmaster Sam Jones began his career in the barbecue business at an early age, helping his grandfather and uncle sell chopped pork at the famous Skylight Inn in his hometown of Ayden, NC.

In 2015, Sam partnered with longtime friend and former Skylight employee Michael Letchworth to open Sam Jones BBQ in Winterville, NC and opened a second location of the restaurant in Raleigh, NC in February 2021.

In 2018, Sam earned a semifinalist nod for the James Beard Foundation Awards Best Chef: Southeast and published Whole Hog BBQ: The Gospel of Carolina Barbecue with Recipes from Skylight Inn and Sam Jones BBQ.

Meet Holly

Holly Williams is an acclaimed singer/songwriter, retail entrepreneur, lover of the south, and mother of 4 with her artist/musician husband Chris Coleman. She hails from music royalty, being the daughter of Hank Williams Jr., but her songwriting has proved it’s not just about her lineage. She has drawn fans from Jackson Browne to John Prine.

Holly has released three critically acclaimed albums to date and we are so glad to have her back at Sea Island for Southern Grown! She loves to weave a story alongside her guitar and is actively working on her 4th record. She also owns 4 of Nashville’s hottest retail spots named White’s Mercantile, this “general store for the modern day tastemaker” is a must stop if ever visiting music city.
