Cottage 553 is a spacious plantation-style home perfectly suited for larger families or groups. With two ground floor master bedrooms as well as both a living room and informal den, this beautifully decorated and immaculately furnished cottage has room for everyone. As you enter the double front doors you are immediately struck by the openness of the sunlight saturated living area directly ahead. Numerous transom windows as well as the soaring two-story beamed ceiling overhead enhance the open floor plan. With plush couches situated in front of an old brick fireplace surmounted with a marquetry mantle, this will be a favorite gathering spot. Close by is the modern well-equipped kitchen with beautiful antiqued cabinetry and enormous granite-topped central island with plenty of barstool seating. A farmstyle breakfast table with wicker seating is perfect for less formal dining, and the adjacent windows allow views of the pool just outside.
In addition to the two downstairs master suites, one with jetted tub, there is a casually furnished den for TV viewing or quiet reading. A formal dining room is across the hall and features an intricately carved glass topped pedestal table beneath a unique chandelier crafted of shells. One wall showcases a collection of oyster plates, a reminder that you are on the coast. Throughout the ground level, sleek heart of pine floors are topped with Oriental carpets, and each wall seems to feature a carefully selected piece of art – from traditional sea shell prints to abstract paintings. Upstairs await 5 additional bedrooms. The hallway features a wrought iron railing with a view of the living area below. Each bedroom combines a thoughtful mix of vintage pieces skillfully interspersed with new furnishings.
For the ultimate in relaxation you will appreciate the covered back terrace. With a backdrop of swaying palms, the old brick flooring and plenty of casual rattan furnishings make this the perfect spot for watching the fun in the large pool (may be heated if requested in advance of arrival for an additional fee) – or relaxing after a refreshing dip. Cottage 553 is located just a short stroll to the private beach at 36th Street, and a scenic bike ride or drive to all the amenities Sea Island offers at The Cloister and Beach Club.
