Sea Island

Bo & Julia

Their Story

What was your favorite memory from your Sea Island Wedding?
It is difficult to narrow it down to just one memory! Walking into the tent for the first time was exhilarating. Bo and I were able to get a sneak peak of the reception space while everyone enjoyed cocktails. We had an intimate moment to take it all in and have the tent to ourselves. The band even played a song for us to have our own private first dance together, and the Sea Island catering team had savory hors d’oeuvres set aside for us as we missed cocktails to take photographs. It was a really special moment in time to see all of the many hours of discussions and design questions come to fruition! We then took photographs outside the tent, overlooking the cocktail reception from a distance. We watched our own party unfold before our very eyes!

How did you hear about Sea Island?
I’ve been coming to Sea Island all my life! My maternal grandparents came to Sea Island on their honeymoon in 1951 and ever since, generations of our family have continued a love affair with this special place.

If you grew up coming here, what is your favorite past Sea Island memory?
There are so many! Growing up, my grandparents would take us to the Main Dining Room at the old Cloister for special dinners. As a young child, it was meaningful to be included and learn how to “behave” with the adults… we’d order the “theme” soda drinks (Batman, Smurf, Ninja Turtles) even amidst the formality of the culinary experience! Other memories: horseback riding and beach trail rides, the Gazebo at the old Beach Club, Plantation Suppers via the Jeep Train at the North end of Sea Island, Cookie Cutters and Tie Die on the beach…

What was the inspiration for your décor/theme of your wedding?
Everything we love about the Sea Island/Palm Beach aesthetic: bamboo, coral (both the color and the texture), rattan, wicker, and the nautical terrain of the south Georgia coast, with a splash of chinoiserie and blue and white. We wanted to incorporate not only our personal taste, but textures/colors/visuals that remind us of this special place that has served as a catalyst for so many happy moments and family memories.

After the wedding was over, were you pleased with the details? How would you describe your experience at Sea Island?
The team did a marvelous job and did everything they could to accommodate our every request and wish. They made the wedding process a can-do experience, both in visualizing what we wanted it to be and making those dreams become a reality. The culinary experience was also superb and was not just a “mass production” in terms of the quality of the menu.
