Welcome to Cottage 429, a private, casually elegant marsh front retreat set on almost two acres of manicured lawns, white pebble paths, and majestic live oak. A circular driveway bordered by stately palms offers a glimpse of the marsh beyond.
Panoramic views fill every room of this inviting home. Snowy egrets congregate in the marsh hammock in the early morning hours, just beyond the expansive and private back lawn that extends westward towards the marsh. Whether enjoying the setting sun from the marsh’s edge or sitting high above the lawns on one of three decks, Cottage 429 offers captivating and unforgettable vistas. There’s simply no location on the marsh quite like this.
This cottage rises to a second-level height to afford these grand views, yet its single-floor layout allows for easy entertaining and a relaxed flow. A spacious foyer opens to an expansive living space with dramatic double-height ceilings and hardwood floors. Rough-hewn beams add style and drama, and floor-to-ceiling windows span the length of the room, flooding it with light. Spectacular views and outdoor deck spaces beckon, though you will be tempted to relax on the oversized down-filled sofas. On the opposite side of the room, a custom-built farm table is set for eight and accommodates up to ten. Entertaining friends or hosting family gatherings is a breeze with the adjacent built-in buffet, offering over ten feet of serving space.
Just behind the dining area is a large chef’s kitchen, and a half bath is conveniently located nearby. Soft beige travertine floors extend throughout. The sizeable island, topped with marbled white quartz, offers ample seating and room for entertaining. To the left of the fireclay farm sink, a picture window frames yet another marsh view vignette, and to your right, open shelving above the coffee bar is illuminated by warm brass sconces. Every appliance is top-of-the-line, including a six-burner Wolf gas range and convection oven, Bosch dishwasher and refrigerator, and Thermador dual zone wine cooler. The separate butler’s pantry houses a Bosch electric oven for baking, a second farm sink, quartz countertops, a Bosch dishwasher, and an ice maker. Don’t forget to grab a fig, kumquat, or Meyer lemon from one of the plantings in the front yard before dinner.
A cozy sitting area with a pair of down-filled swivel chairs is open to the kitchen, perfect for enjoying morning coffee or watching the news from the wall-mounted flat-screen television. Sliding glass doors lead to an outdoor dining area, where a Weber Genesis II natural gas grill is on hand. Evenings on the decks at Cottage 429 are a memorable affair.
Around the corner, two bedrooms are located in a separate wing with white oak floors. The cozy yet ample queen bedroom is set apart from a large family room by antique pine sliding doors, with easy access to a charming twin bunk room. Both bedrooms share a full bath with double sinks. The comfortable family room with a 65” LG OLED television and oversized sectional is perfect for movie night.
On the opposite end of the house, a private office with ample desk space and a laser printer is ideal for catching up on work or taking an important call. Yet with marsh views, flat-screen television, and a leather sofa, you may wish to linger.
The master bedroom is roomy and private with its own pergola-covered deck overlooking the marsh and pool. Privacy is enhanced by the entry hall with a separate half bath, and wide plank white oak flooring lends warmth. The plush king bed faces floor-to-ceiling windows, offering front-row vistas from sunrise to sunset. An inviting lounge chair offers a reading nook or a place to daydream. Enter the luxurious master bath to enjoy a wet room with a soaking tub, large shower, and marsh views, his-and-hers sinks, and a dressing area with a walk-in closet. A door to the side deck allows easy access to a staircase leading to the pool and outdoor shower. Pool may be heated with advance request prior to arrival and an additional fee. From here, the dunes of the 36th Street beach are within reach, just a ten-minute walk.
The fourth and fifth bedrooms, each with king beds, en suite baths, and wide plank white oak floors, are located at the end of the hall. Both open directly onto a long deck under the shade of a magnolia tree, offering a more intimate outdoor venue for reading or simply taking in the ever-changing natural beauty of the marsh. Guests here also share a comfortable sitting room with a flat-screen television, desk, and generous couch.
For panoramic marsh views, breathtaking sunsets, and one of the largest private open spaces on Sea Island, Cottage 429 offers a retreat like no other.
